To celebrate our new look, Narrative is hosting an iStory contest, and we’re thrilled to have you join us.
What’s an iStory? An iStory is an original Narrative feature that accomplishes a lot, with no frills (much like our new look). It is a short, dramatic narrative—fiction or nonfiction—of no more than 150 words. (At this length the piece offers a quick, strong read on smartphones and via our iOS or Android apps.) What makes a great iStory? We look for inspired, timeless iStories that are entertaining, informing, or shocking, and, most of all, speak to the heart of things.

Contest Entry Dates: The contest runs from Monday, September 22, to Thursday, October 2, 2014, at midnight, Pacific daylight time.
Who’s Judging?: Legendary author Ann Beattie. (Wow.)
Prizes: The winner will be announced via Twitter and Facebook on Monday, October 13. First prize: $250; Second place $150; Third Prize $100—and all have a chance for publication in Narrative.
There is no submission fee for our iStory contest, but we do ask that you follow us on Twitter, Facebook and/or Google +. (If you’re already following us, well done. If you’re not, the contest submission page provides a quick, easy way to join us.)
Guidelines: Submissions must be in 12-point type and double-spaced, with at least one-inch margins, and no more than 150 words, including the title. Your name, address, telephone number, and email address should be typed at the top of the page. You may also include a brief biographical note.
