I cooked eggs for us. I cracked six into a skillet and turned on the burner. They ran all together and my sister said, Ugh, but I cut them in wedges, like pie.
Mama was on the couch with her swollen leg stretched out. She had a ring on one toe and she couldn’t get it off. She turned on the TV and sent me to get her credit cards from the shoebox under our bed. I brought back bracelets too, for the three of us. My sister and I sat on the floor, leaning against the couch. We held our hands up so the bracelets wouldn’t fall off.
