In 2014–2016 I lived in and around New Orleans while exploring the many sides of the city. It’s a place where deep-rooted cultural traditions, endless parties, promiscuous gentrification, and the highest incarceration rate in the world weave together to create a feeling like nowhere else I have ever been.
Without any intention or goal in mind, I photographed as a way to try to understand the new place where I found myself. It was a purely personal act. I didn’t even develop the film until long after I left the city. After moving away, I began to look at the images and piece them together. Part documentary, part poem, “Photos from New Orleans” is an attempt to make sense of and remember that time and place.
