It was with gratitude that I read this poem. I have long felt this way. Forming the question requires accepting the fact of the acts. Karma will have its way. Thank you, Chase, for saying what so many of us feel.

I live in Virginia and have been haunted by what these men did to those dogs and am saddened by the football lovers who seem to only care for today's game, and yet have their own dogs. Thank you, Chase, for your courage and kind heart in writing this poem. The title is so appropriate. I also appreciate the second line of Dot's comment.

Twichell and Merwin know what it means to be truly human and humane. Given the dark clouds we are laboring under politically, I find it uplifting to read people who care. How anyone could give Vick and company a pass, much less hire him back because he can run a ball, boggles the mind and heart.

I live not far from Philadelphia and it is absolutely mind-boggling to see the way everyone bowed down to Michael Vick during football season this year. Not only was he excused, he was also revered. I suspect if he hadn't done well, the fans would have slammed him and used the felonies he committed against him. Philly fans are very fickle, but this really took the cake. Such a brief yet poignant piece of work. Thank you for exploring the issue in this way.

Thank you for this poem, especially the title. Approaching torture as subject matter is always difficult. This poem does not flinch.
