One of the best essays I ever read as well. Intimate, yes, even revelatory. Certainly poetic. For me, the resonances are almost more numerous than I can absorb in a single reading. How I would love to meet the author!
Walking (through time) is my own favorite way to experience the past. And what a great place to end up. A beautiful essay I intend to share with friends and students.

One of the best essays I've ever read. Informative and scientific, yet intimate and poetic. Thanks for posting.

I love essay writing. This one of the best.
This reminds me of John McPhee, one of my favorite writers who also manages to educate and captivate at the same time.
I agree with the previous posts. This is one of the best essays I've ever read.
