Beautiful articulation of transitional point in mind set: from fear of invasion by alien life into mingling in the spirit sea of commonality.

Because it's tied so tightly to a human and her thoughts, the poem allows the reader to empathize with the character (and the narrator) and the ritual, even if the ritual is not observed or practiced in the reader's life.
