A very well chosen excerpt, compelling, fully charged with foreshadowing passages, and ah, how well Tolstoy describes Vronsky devouring this vision of Frou Frou. How easy it is at times to forget Tolstoy is describing a horse. This is an excerpt that proves to readers of "Anna" that it's not about a love story, or the story of one woman.
