I like your story, I like your family!

What a beautiful piece of writing. Thank you, Russell, for taking me inside your loving family and sharing the story of Jay's arrival. Your deft word choices reveal so much emotion and intelligence and embody the philosophy of love and openness underpinning your family. As a reader I was embraced by your warmth and impressed by the images you painted, and as an adoptive parent I was moved by the generosity of a family who saw a boy in need and seamlessly incorporated him into their fold. I hope Jay and all of you Workings have remained closely connected and mutually supportive.

Thank you, Yvonne! And we like you.

Thank you, Janet. I appreciate that, especially from an adoptive parent.

Such a poignant story; a loving family. "I am my brother's keeper" in the truest sense.

Wondrously written, Russell. Years ago when we roomed together for a semester in the United Kingdom you told me parts of this story. But it is so much better all in one place. Thanks for opening our eyes to the beauty of this slice of your family's story.

I love the memoir for stating the facts without the syrup, yet inviting us into unique view of a family, with flaws that afflict so many other families. Your honesty strikes a chord deep inside. I am penning my memoir and I have realised from your story, it does not have to pretty, it has to be genuine. Bravo!

What an enjoyable read…I was sad to have it end. Hope you're going to do a longer memoir at some point.
