This story is deeply affecting and made me want to read more of Hurston. I was particularly moved by the relationship between John Redding and his father, and the father's hopes that he could live his stymied hopes through his son.

A deeply moving story of loss and unfulfilled ambition. It was beautifully crafted and a thoroughly enjoyable read.
