Not exactly comforting, being able to relate to the essence of relinquishing a life lived single-mindedly, holistically; of facing the lone landscape of dwindling years in which to find and replace the relinquished, intrinsic, values that gave meaning to the years.

Not comforting, but companionable. Thank you. Congratulations on your well-deserved award.

Easily my favorite of the three winners, perhaps because I'm at home with the New England voice and the character's time of life. Thoughtfully shaped, literate, the title's reference fully realized. A lovely piece of work.
