I read this piece with interest, as I am currently looking for an agent to represent me. As a long-time academic writer, I have many connections to the world of academic publishing. I have served as series editor, taken positions on advisory boards, guest edited journals, and have acquired books by colleagues for publishing houses. But I must admit to feeling totally lost in this new world of the trade press. I remain mystified about how to find the right agent for latest work, as it crosses genre codes. It's part personal quest, TV analysis, and travelogue. I'm writing about the popular BBC TV series Death in Paradise by traveling to the location and exploring the island of Guadeloupe. Along the way I'm also motivated by my own quest to find Paradise. It seems to work in print, at least for me, but how on earth can it be marketed?!
