I found this a beautifully written piece which dragged the reader in, right beside the narrator. As her story progresses with hints of the pressures of life in a communist state, suddenly a quiet day out turns into a tension filled drama. The fear is palpable and brilliantly drawn out. Resolution is tinged with sadness as the horror quietly fades away.
Did I mention the wonderfully rich descriptions that spoke so well of the writer’s skills, more of which would surely follow? It has been a real joy to read this literary treat, which to an elderly aspiring memoirist is an inspiring learning experience.
