Lagos

A Story

I first experienced Lagos about thrity-two years ago coming from the somehow purer and more honest Niger in the north. My first impressions were that Lagos was a city that looked all around the world at what was good and what was bad and then chose the bad. And yet, it did have a primal energy that was very tempting. Davis captures that energy very well in this story. What Nigel said about people only being interested in stories that somehow support their prejudices and views of Africa is also, unfortunately, very true. Africa is such an amazing continent and it's a shame that more people cannot experience the warmth, the spirit, the resilience, and the beauty of its peoples and culture. Thank you for this wonderful story.
