I am also a retired math teacher and now a poet. Today, I was swimming laps thinking a poem of words in twos, so this poem strikes deep, a synchronicity of small note. Amy Uyematsu's poem celebrates counting and beats, hearts and inevitability: "Me for you, and you for me." I am still astonished that words so close to hers were in my head this afternoon as I swam and turned, swam and turned. A fun thing. I want to read more of her work.

Amy, very nice. I also taught math. The heartbeat of a girl with the beautiful downbeat of the second thump never gets old.
A simple and deep poem, with the lovely beating heart at the end. Thanks, Amy.
