War Widow

This is a wonderfully moving poem that captures the significance of loss in a concise and non-sentimental way that I appreciate greatly. Life does go on, but somehow presence is always figured by what is no longer in your life on a daily basis.

It's funny how such simple choices of diction, such as the absence of "er" from "Widow" in the title, can direct the reader's mind to a certain image. What I love about Chris Abani's poem is its ability to offer the reader the emotions a personal point of view even though it's coming from an outside perspective. Well done.

I like your style. There are no hidden meanings to decipher or a vague randomness. Instead you are very clear at painting the emotions of a widow that loved and lost with no control in the situation. Well done!
