I loved this radiant story, for the charged plainness of its voice, deep insight into love and human nature, and the lyrical power of its ending. I'm so happy it won a prize.
A subtle and powerful story, all the more wonderful for its restraint. Very wise about the French. It reminded me in the best way of early Mavis Gallant.

Delightful story--groups of women can be like a snake in the crevice, times ten. I loved the point of view of the two outsiders, actively engaged in their own lives. Engaging and convincing, this story is so thoughtfully wrought.

A sensible, strong, and superior woman. And the others . . . so typical. A good story.

A riveting story artfully told.
