This isn't the first piece I've read by Ms. Jamison within Narrative Magazine, and I hope it's not the last. A finely crafted story of love, loss, and remembering. I hope she has a collection in the works.
Great story. Very perceptive about what the characters must tell themselves to get by, the deceptions and regrets and series of small capitulations. I particularly liked the final lines about considering a call to her husband, hoping he'll help make sense of the evening, and how he'll be impatient, not understanding why it matters. It underscores how a profound lack of understanding is at the center of all relationships, marriages, and ourselves. More from Mrs. Jamison, please.

I loved this visit to the road not travelled, and the shrug of denial that makes us live with our choices. Wonderful story.
