Patricia Goedicke (1931–2006) was born in Boston and studied with Robert Frost at Middlebury College and with W. H. Auden in Manhattan. She published twelve volumes of poetry, known for their memorable rhythms and emotional riches, including As Earth Begins to End (Copper Canyon Press, 2000) and The Tongues We Speak, a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. Awarded a Pushcart Prize and the William Carlos Williams Award, Goedicke was a popular teacher at the University of Montana.
