“WHEN EVERYTHING CHANGED”
We proudly announce the winners of the Third Annual Narrative “Tell Me a Story” High School Contest.
This year we asked students from public, independent, parochial, and charter schools in the Bay Area, Chicago, and as far away as Seoul, South Korea, to respond to the prompt “When everything changed.” The hundreds of essays and short stories that these young writers produced reveal nuanced perspectives on what it means to grow up. Their hopes, fears, and joys reflect the strong and creative voices of our next generation. They remind us of the simple, enduring power of stories to illuminate the human condition and give voice to the most essential and binding truths.
It’s an honor for all of us here at Narrative to celebrate the work of these talented writers, whose stories are now part of our ever-expanding free library and are published alongside the work of Alice Munro, Jhumpa Lahiri, Ocean Vuong, Anthony Marra, and many of today’s literary stars.
