Alfred George Gardiner

Alfred George Gardiner (1865–1946) was an influential British journalist, editor, and author who sometimes wrote under the pen name Alpha of the Plough. The editor of the Daily News from 1902 to 1919, he improved coverage of both news and literature while raising awareness for social causes—in particular a minimum wage for industry workers. His elegant and amusing manner in disseminating the truths of life earned him a following. Pillars of Society, Pebbles on the Shore, Leaves in the Wind, and Many Furrows are among his best-loved works.
