Henry James

Henry James (1843–1916) is the author of such classics as The Portrait of a Lady and The Turn of the Screw and is regarded as one of the most significant masters of nineteenth-century literature. In work marked by a singular devotion to realistic storytelling, James brought highly developed characters into conflict with society, revealing themes of class, personal freedom, and morality. His work has never gone out of print and continues to influence generations of readers and writers.
