Jack Smith

Jack Smith trained at the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan and the Columbus College of Art and Design in Ohio. With a profound knowledge of art history and an alchemist’s sense of craft, Smith has brought his singular vision to the contemporary portrait with subjects ranging from the famous to the infamous—artists, writers, art patrons, Native Americans, and street people. In 2004 he was awarded the prestigious Past Achievement Award from the Martin Foundation for the Creative Arts. His newest project: thirty portraits of American poets recognizing their contributions to American writing.
