Jane Bernstein was born in Brooklyn and received an MFA from Columbia. She is the author of five books, including the memoirs Bereft: A Sister’s Story and Rachel in the World. Her film work includes the screenplay for the movie Seven Minutes in Heaven. Bernstein is a professor of English at Carnegie Mellon University and lives in Pittsburgh.
