Marie Mockett is the author of the novel Picking Bones from Ash and the memoir Where the Dead Pause and the Japanese Say Goodbye: A Journey (Norton, 2015), which is set during the 2011 Great East Earthquake in Japan at her family’s Buddhist temple, located twenty-five miles from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Reactor. Mockett lives in San Francisco with her husband and son.
