Mary Lerner

Mary Lerner (1882–1938) was the author of at least fourteen short stories, published in national magazines between 1914 and 1919. Her story “Little Selves,” which highlights the memories of an elderly Irish American woman at the end of her life, was chosen for the Twenty Best American Short Stories for 1916 and later for the Best American Short Stories of the Century. Lerner stopped writing sometime in the 1920s owing to an injury received from a fall.
