Nicky Beer was born on Long Island and earned an MFA from the University of Houston and a PhD from the University of Missouri–Columbia. She is the author of three poetry collections, The Octopus Game, Diminishing House, and Real Phonies and Genuine Fakes (Milkweed, 2022). Beer is an associate professor at the University of Colorado in Denver.
