R. A. Costello was born and raised in upstate New York and has held a series of jobs, including trade specialist and police dispatcher. In 2010 he began an MFA in the Writing for Children and Young Adults program at the Vermont College of Fine Arts. He lives with his partner in Ithaca, New York.
