Keeping Up

A Kardashian is not to be trifled with.

Each Kardashian, under a leaf-pile
of lush hair, brown and pelted
mantle, contains something hard
and hewn at the core, something
bought and sold in the exchanges
of a difficult spiritual economy.
Each Kardashian is the child of Bedouins
who abandoned her, a crying heap
between hillocks of an empty
landscape, all dirt, then returned to her
quickly, just as soon as that terror
set in. Then they did it again.
