As a teacher myself, I had a difficult time coming to terms with some of the choices the main character, Mr. Silver, made in the book. I also found that I couldn't put the book down. The characters are authentic, each dealing with his own moral dilemma, each struggling to find his place in the world. Maksik uses the works of Sartre and Camus in teaching his characters, and like teachers, we get to witness the characters' own ideas and morality unfold as they learn. Interesting read.
