Great writing and I will look for additional works by Siqi Liu. She should certainly be widely read. This is more like literature than many "best seller" books which will be forgotten a year from now. Perhaps she'll soon publish a collection of short stories.
Like so many Narrative stories I enjoy the ending felt a little "flat". It calls to mind what Daniel Wallace wrote about the ending for his book “The Kings and Queens of Roam”. "I went through six different endings. I couldn’t really nail it. It was a year of different endings before I got to that one. You read it and it’s so natural and so right, but it didn’t come that way."
